2017 Duckhorn Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Three Palms Vineyard
One of California’s legendary vineyards, Three Palms is revered for its history and its benchmark wines. We have been proud to craft a vineyard-designated Merlot from this property since our inaugural vintage in 1978. Throughout the years, the Cabernet Sauvignon from Three Palms has always played an integral role in the final blend, adding richness and depth. With aromas of cinnamon and clove, and dark cherry and black raspberry flavors, this wine showcases the power and purity of Three Palms Cabernet Sauvignon.
Varietal Composition: 100% estate fruit - 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot
Beautifully deep and complex, this wine begins with succulent fruit aromas of blueberry, blackberry jam and chocolate-covered cherries, followed by hints of graphite, thyme and fig. The luxurious blue and black fruit notes continue on the palate, where firm tannins and vibrant acidity provide an age-worthy framework. As it evolves, a zesty streak of wet stone minerality is revealed, adding poise and intrigue to a long, refined finish.
The 2017 growing season began with abundant winter rains, followed by a warm, dry spring that led to a perfectly timed budbreak. In addition to replenishing the water table, the early season rains produced robust canopies, which provided invaluable shade during a week-long heat event that kicked harvest into gear during the last week of August. This was followed by a much-needed cooldown that allowed the vines to recuperate, while also giving us extra hangtime for flavor development and tannin resolution. We harvested throughout September and into early October, with the grapes showing lovely ripeness and quality, yielding plush, polished and wonderfully complex wines.
